After you’ve applied Minimum and Smart Sharpen, you’re going to right click on your Smart Sharpen filter and click on “Edit Smart Filter Blending Options”, like so: Here are the settings I usually use for Minimum: My smart sharpen settings sometimes differ depending on the anime I’m giffing so I’m going to link you to the tutorial that taught me how to use it so you can learn from it and apply it to your own liking. The filters I prefer using are Minimum, Smart Sharpen and Surface Blur, which you can find by going to “Filter” > “Other” > “Minimum, “Filter” > “Sharpen” > “Smart Sharpen”, and “Filter” > “Blur” > “Surface Blur”. Click on the lined box once again and click on “Convert to Timeline”, then select all the layers in the Layers window on your right-hand side, your work space should now look like this: Now you’re going to go to “Filter” > “Convert for Smart Filters” and your work space should now look like this: Don’t worry about all your layers disappearing, they’re still all there! Next is editing your gif. Now for those who like to edit their gifs further, that’s where filters come in! But first, you’re going to convert your gif into a smart filter in order to make it easier to edit. You can try these or your own settings and as soon as you’re happy with the outcome all you do is click on the save button below and you’ve got your gif! If you don’t want to bother with editing your gif any further (like sharpening, blurring, etc) then you’re done! Now I’m going to quickly go to “File” > “Export” > “Save For Web” so I can show you what my settings are for exporting my gifs: Remember that using the same speed for every gif will not benefit all gifs! ![]() I prefer speeds that range between 0.09 and 0.12, but you can mess with these and find which ones suit your gif to your liking (I chose 0.09 for this gif). The frame rate delay (where you can change how fast you want your gif to play) can be found in the Animation window. Make sure the dimensions are set to “Pixels”, change the numbers to 540 and 303 to crop out the grey lines, and click ok.īefore I go any further, I’ll just quickly explain my frame rate settings. ![]() But when resizing, sometimes there are these annoying grey lines that outline the gif so I like to resize like this:Ĭlick ok, then go to “Image” > “Canvas Size” and this should pop up: You want it to be resized to suit the size dimensions on tumblr so your average size for a single gif will be 540x303 (Look up the proper size dimensions if you want to make a gifset since those will be smaller). For this, you go to “Image” > “Image Size”. This will make your gifs move more fluidly in my opinion and will make a lighter gif so that it fits within the size limit on tumblr.Īfter I’ve deleted the duplicates, I take this time to resize my gif. What I do next is delete any duplicate frames (aka repeat frames) or frames I don’t need in the Animation window. Your work space should look like this now: Next, you’re going to click on “Create Frame Animation” right smack in the middle of the Animation window, click the lined box again and click on “Make Frames From Layers”. Next you’re going to click on the little box with some lines in the top-right corner of the Animation window and go to “Convert Frames” > “Flatten Frames into Layers”, look at the image below for reference:Īll right, now what I do next is click on the lined box again and click “Delete Timeline”. Therefore, the client receives no CORS headers for static content and that's why LHC doesn't work in cross-origin setting with Plesk by default. ![]() Unfortunately, in this mode nginx loses CORS headers for static content, which were set in. By default Plesk uses nginx in reverse proxy mode with nginx serving static content as directed by X-Accel-Redirect header set by Apache (see Apache with nginx). Because the bears were featured on the album art as well as within the social sphere of communal drug use at the band’s live performances, they quickly became a symbol deeply entwined with the culture of listening to the Grateful Dead. What does this have to do with the dancing bears you ask?Īctually a lot! Following the release of the Dead’s album, the bears motif began appearing on Stanley’s LSD blotter art, which also just so happened to be widely circulated at most Grateful Dead concerts at the time. In addition to being the band’s sound engineer, Owsley Stanley was also one of the world’s first private LSD manufacturers. The band gave him the nickname from him being a very hairy man. The Bears Choice album, which was an early idea similar to Dicks Picks releases, had the first depictions of the Dancing Bears art on the back cover. The Bears originally appeared on the back cover of the Grateful Dead’s Bear’s Choice album launching the design into the public eye, but this album circulation only accounted for a portion of the rapid fame attributed to the bears. The bears are basically about and in reference to Stanley Owsley. The actual principal design for the style of bear we now commonly associate with the Grateful Dead was born from a 36-point lead type slug featuring a generic bear print that Thomas found and used as his primary artistic inspiration. ![]() There is also speculation that the moniker “Dancing Bear” was attributed to Stanley in reference to his peculiar choice of dance moves at concerts while high on acid. The choice to create a symbol using bears as the focal point stems from Owsley Stanley’s nickname “Bear” given to him by childhood friends as a result of his excessive chest hair. In addition to these ubiquitous graphics, Thomas also designed the art for the The Dead’s Steal Your Face and Live Dead as well as the logo for Alembic, an American manufacturer of high-end electric guitars, basses and preamps started by Owsley Stanley, the Grateful Dead’s sound engineer. Thomas actually has a long history tied with The Dead having co-designed the band’s iconic “Lightning Bolt” logo with Owsley Stanley in 1969 as a means of keeping track of the band’s equipment while on tour. They were created by Bob Thomas - an old friend of Bears who was an accomplished artist and musician in his own right. The origin of the bear was taken from the. The dancing bear design was originally created by artist and renaissance man Bob Thomas for use on the back of the Grateful Dead’s 1973 album The History of the Grateful Dead, Volume 1 (Bear’s Choice). Why a Grateful Dead Bear The dancing bears symbolized the fun-loving aspect of the Grateful Dead and their fans. The Grateful Dead, which earned an infamous status for the many bootleg copies of their live shows, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. He believed that to study society, a sociologist must look beyond individuals to social facts such as laws, morals, values, religious beliefs, customs, fashion, and rituals, which all serve to govern social life (Durkheim, 1895). Durkheim believed that society is a complex system of interrelated and interdependent parts that work together to maintain stability (Durkheim, 1893), and that society is held together by shared values, languages, and symbols. Émile Durkheim applied Spencer’s theory to explain how societies change and survive over time. The parts of society that Spencer referred to were the social institutions, or patterns of beliefs and behaviors focused on meeting social needs, such as government, education, family, healthcare, religion, and the economy. ![]() He argued that just as the various organs of the body work together to keep the body functioning, the various parts of society work together to keep society functioning (Spencer, 1898). Functionalism grew out of the writings of English philosopher and biologist, Herbert Spencer, who saw similarities between society and the human body. Functionalismįunctionalism, also called structural-functional theory, sees society as a structure with interrelated parts designed to meet the biological and social needs of the individuals in that society. Table 1.1 Sociological Theories or Perspectives Different sociological perspectives enable sociologists to view social issues through a variety of useful lenses. Three paradigms have come to dominate sociological thinking because they provide useful explanations: structural functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. ![]() Paradigms are philosophical and theoretical frameworks used within a discipline to formulate theories, generalizations, and the experiments performed in support of them. In sociology, a few theories provide broad perspectives that help explain many different aspects of social life, and these are called paradigms. Classic sociological theories are still considered important and current, but new sociological theories build upon the work of their predecessors and add to them (Calhoun, 2002). Sociological theory is constantly evolving and should never be considered complete. Grand theories attempt to explain large-scale relationships and answer fundamental questions such as why societies form and why they change. Macro-level theories relate to large-scale issues and large groups of people, while micro-level theories look at very specific relationships between individuals or small groups. Theories vary in scope depending on the scale of the issues that they are meant to explain. His work supports the utility of theory in sociological research. Durkheim gathered a large amount of data about Europeans and found that Protestants were more likely to commit suicide than Catholics. He studied social solidarity, social ties within a group, and hypothesized that differences in suicide rates might be explained by religious differences. In sociology, a theory is a way to explain different aspects of social interactions and to create a testable proposition, called a hypothesis, about society (Allan 2006).įor example, although suicide is generally considered an individual phenomenon, Émile Durkheim was interested in studying the social factors that affect it. Sociologists study social events, interactions, and patterns, and they develop theories to explain why things work as they do. Figure 1.7 Sociologists develop theories to explain social occurrences such as protest rallies. ![]() |
